PPG's 'tash dash

PPG reports on a hair-raisingly successful Movember

Movember may be about raising money for a serious cause (supporting prostate cancer and depression initiatives) but that doesn’t mean there can’t be a bit of fun involved. With staff from across the PPG organisation taking part in Movember 2011, the NSW refinish sales force decided on a competitive, team approach to help increase participation and have a few laughs.

The target was to raise between $2000 and $3000 amongst the 21 staff, who were split into three teams. Since they were unable to grow facial hair themselves, three female staff – Lai, Sue and Kylie – were appointed as team captains. As ‘taches’ sprouted on upper lips the total hit $2,246 by the third week but there was more to come. Interest was really boosted at a barbeque on the last day of Movember where a series of coveted ‘awards’ were handed out, including biggest, smallest, longest and greyest ‘mo’, as well as the most money raised by a team and an individual. The final event also pushed fund raising above all expectations to a sum of $7,825. To top it off, PPG Australia matched those donations dollar-for-dollar to reach a grand total of $15,650 going towards charities.

The bonus, according to the team captain, Brett Abdy (PPG NSW MVP Manager), has been the fun and laughs generated by the Movember event, particularly given the challenging times faced by NSW repairers recently. He would especially like to thank all the industry people, family and friends who donated to the worthy cause.
