Young apprentices have been awarded for talents in vehicle painting at the WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition hosted by Axalta Coating Systems.

The awards for the Brisbane and Gold Coast regions saw 12 entrants aged 18-23 take to Axalta's Gold Coast Training Centre to showcase their skills in the field.

The two gold champions Ashley Buechse (Brisbane) and Jac Urlich (Gold Coast) will now join 500 other young apprentices, trainees and students across Australia to compete for the National Chamption title across 50 skill categories.

Axalta training manager Paul Polverino said that the youngsters showcased an impressive skillset particularly when using new products such as Sagola Xtreme spray guns.

“I was so impressed with their work ethic and motivation.

“The competitors had an incredible ability to adapt to new products that they had never used before.”

The 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition will be held at Melbourne Showgrounds from October 6-8.
