The Motor Traders’ Association of NSW (MTA NSW) is sponsoring a new driver in the 2019 Aussie Racing Cars Series, which commences at the Adelaide 500 from February 28 – March 3.

The race car is approximately half the size of their full sized counterparts, and will be driven by MTA NSW trained third year mechanical apprentice, Kody Garland, from Advanced Automotive in Taree.

MTA NSW CEO, Stavros Yallouridis, said “We are very excited to be sponsoring Kody in the Aussie Racing Cars Series. Motorsport racing in NSW is very popular, attracting the interests of our members and young people who are passionate and interested in our industry. As a registered training organisation (RTO) our aim is to encourage more men and women to consider an automotive apprenticeship as a career pathway, which will assist towards addressing the current skills shortage. We see a strong synergy between training apprentices like Kody and fostering new motorsport talent. The Association is confident that our members, their customers and the industry as a whole, will greatly benefit from this exposure”.

Garland has been racing Go Karts at a State and National competition level since the age of nine, competing in series such as The NSW Kart Championship, The Australian Kart Championship and The Rotax Pro Tour, winning several State titles and placing himself consistently in the top three of Australia.

Kody said, “My success in karting has ignited my passion to take the next step in my motorsport career. It has always been an ambition of mine to race cars, so this year I have chosen to compete in the 2019 Aussie Racing Car Series. In Adelaide, I will be competing against over 30 other competitors at the top of their game. I cannot wait to get onto the track and show them what I’ve got!”

This is an exciting year for the Aussie Racing Car Series as they celebrate their 20th Anniversary. The series will be contested over 7 rounds across Australia, with Round 1 being in Adelaide, and all rounds being held in conjunction with the V8 Supercars.
