The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has backed a recent policy paper from the Nation Transport Commission (NTC).

The paper outlined a two year program aimed at facilitating automated vehicle trialling and testing. Increased testing will take place under local conditions with the goal being more responsive performance-based approach to regulation.

FCAI's CEO Tony Weber, welcomed the initiatives saying they would assist in important mechanisms and facilitate the progress of advanced vehicle technology.

“In the long-term, Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems promise to deliver significant benefits to the community in such areas as road user safety, lower traffic congestion, and reduced emissions.

“The industry welcomes the NTC’s plan to identify and reduce regulatory barriers and strive for a national framework,” Weber said.
