Following its debut success at last year’s Motorclassica, the Live Restoration Theatre will return for the 2019 edition of Australia’s premier automotive exhibition, celebrating its 10th year, from the 11- 13 October (that's the same weekend as Paint & Panel L!VE and Bodyshop Awards, also in Melbourne).
Motorclassica’s Live Restoration Theatre will once again feature five separate live and concurrent demonstrations of varying aspects of vehicle restoration, presented by Maskell’s Customs and Classics.
Renowned Coachbuilder Brian Tanti and restorer Greg Maskell will host the Theatre, educating and entertaining show-goers with demonstrations of the unique skills required to bring older vehicles back to life.
With each session, both will be on hand to answer questions and dispense advice.
“Our Live Restoration Theatre proved a hugely popular addition to Motorclassica last year, creating an interactive activity that really engaged and, for some, educated show visitors on what goes into the restoration of these superb vehicles,” Event Director Paul Mathers said.
“Motorclassica is about every aspect of classic and collectible cars and motorcycles, from the world-quality examples competing in the Australian International Concours d’Elegance, to the enthusiast clubs outside in Club Sandwich.
“It’s about the automotive enthusiast lifestyle and everything that goes with it.”
Among the Live Restoration Theatre demonstrations will be a mobile Paint Booth, with vision streamed live to the audience watching on screens inside the Royal Exhibition Building.
Mechanical reconditioning, panel beating, paint preparation and reassembly will also be among the disciplines demonstrated in the Live Restoration Theatre.
Vehicles confirmed as part of the Restoration Theatre, include a Jaguar barn find that was displayed at Motorclassica 2018, which will undergo extensive work in the panel beating section, while a 1965 Mustang convertible will come to life in the assembly area.
Marking its 10th staging, Motorclassica 2019 will celebrate its own landmark as Australasia’s most significant automotive show with some important historical milestones.
One hundred years of British marques Bentley and Alvis will be celebrated with special displays of important models through the years, as will a century of the very French Citroen.
Italian tuner Abarth will be honoured too for its 70 years of enhanced Fiat and Lancia models, while 60 years of the iconic original British Mini will also be celebrated.
And Japan’s often-overlooked contribution to the sports car genre will be marked as well, with a display of models from over 50 years of production.
All of these rare and exotic cars will be a part of Motorclassica’s 130 vehicle display on the floor of the world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building, many of them also participants in the Australian International Concours d’Elegance.
Further vehicle variety will be provided by the daily Club Sandwich displays of cars and motorcycles adjacent to the main building.
Inside, the main stage will play host to a range of special guests across the three days of Motorclassica, while upstairs there will be 80 exhibitors displaying a range of automotive lifestyle products and service.
