When you are setting up a business it's easy to miss some of the basics, and once you are in the thick of running that business it hard to find the time to set up those basics.

One of the fundamental basics that East Coast Paint and Panel (ECPP) didn't find time for was a professional website. Cara Lewis had set up a website using Wix.Com but the site doesn't come up in any searches and doesn't set up the company's virtual shop front.

Despite not having a website or a google listing ECPP still had enough work to keep busy. What we are going to document is how much more work - and how much more profitable work - they will attract having a professionally designed website which will allow them to measure leads and conversions.

Enter SiteSuite Website Design who have been engaged to create the ECPP website. Now there are heaps of website design companies out there and choosing the right one is important. The company will host your website and if they go out of business you can be a world of hurt. SiteSuite has been around for 19 years delivering quality, highly functional websites to a raft of different industries.

You can, of course, design your own website very cheaply but the advantages of having a professionally designed shop front are well worth the investment of around $4,000. Homemade websites don't have all the functionality that a professionally developed one has. Google and other search engines change their criteria for delivering your business at the top of search results all the time and having a professional website host means they can make the necessary tweaks to keep you top of the search hits.

Grant Goodger SiteSuite's CEO said: “You need a trusted online guide to help you navigate through this minefield, to allow you to focus on your core skills within your business.” He makes a strong point here – why waste time developing your own website when you can leave it to professionals and spend that time working on your own business?

“Our clients tell us we streamline their business, increase productivity, and generate more profit. We have been doing this for over 19 years now, and we have a wealth of experience to offer and share. This is our passion."

First off Goodger asked ECPP's Cara Lewis to find some websites they liked to base their own on. Next he looked up the most searched up keywords for the industry. This is important for your search engine optimisation (SEO) which everyone will no doubt have had their inbox groaning with marketing emails from SEO optimisation companies claiming that they can boost your online presence. Interestingly these are some of the top 10 keywords.

These need to be seamlessly included in the copy of your website. So Lewis from ECPP is now working on what information she wants included on the website. When this information is written it will be reviewed by SiteSuite to ensure that it includes enough keywords. Meanwhile Lewis has booked a photographer to take high quality pictures of the business and staff that can be used for the website and promotional materials that she plans to produce to promote the company to gain more fleet work.

It's a chicken and egg situation though, because Lewis realises that she doesn't want to canvass more fleet companies until she has the website up and running, as well as the 1300 number she's setting up. Once these basics are in place then the opportunities to grow the business and measure that growth are limitless.
