There's nothing worse than busting your favourite pair of thongs. You've worked hard to get that comfy groove in them and then just like that they, they're gone.

But if you're Peter “Pedro” Rodgers, that's not an issue. The Northern Territorian local has created his own makeshift mudflaps from his collection of broken thongs.

“The old mudflaps on my ute were rooted. I needed something to replace them before the cops saw me,” said Rodgers.

With that concern, the idea was born. He bolted three old pairs to his wheel wells and quickly got back on the road.

Not only are they are a great mudflap alternative but Rodgers says they make a great conversation starter at his local pub, the Berry Springs Tavern.

“Everyone down at the pub loves them. People driving past always give me a good look and a bit of a wave and a thumbs up.

“It’s recycling at its best.”
