If you can't afford your own 5 Series BMW, then might we recommend you join the Victoria police?

BMW is supplying 80 BMW 530d sedans for the highway patrol fleet by the end of 2018.

“Lauded by media and customers alike for its combination of performance, safety and efficiency, the new BMW 5 Series range is a natural fit for police duty,” said BMW Group Australia CEO Marc Werner of the announcement.

They'll be less of the upmarket 5 Series extras like Bowers Wilkins Diamond surround-sound system with 10 channel amplification, 16 speakers, 1,400 watts and illuminated speaker grille - although that might give the siren a boost. And, they'll forgo the rear-seat entertainment –  two individually controlled 10.2-inch screens s with built-in DVD/Blu-Ray players and connections for MP3 players and games consoles, (no point in pampering perps)  in favour of a factory-fitted ‘police pack’ which prepares the vehicle for heavy-duty operations.

The first BMW 530d Victoria Police Highway Patrol vehicles are expected to be operational by early-2018.
