Three apprentices have been awarded international scholarships through a joint initiative between WPC Group (WPC Group is a leading nonprofit organisation with more than 40 years of experience in apprenticeship programs.) and LSH Auto dealership group, Australia. They travelled to the United Kingdom in November to undertake visits of observation, sharing best practices in vocational skills, education, and training between the two countries.
The apprentices were selected by a panel of judges for their dedication to vocational learning and potential to lead in their industries.
Ray Sorrell a fourth year body repair technician apprentice at MBQ Autobody in Brisbane was one of the three apprentices selected. He came to body repair via a circuitous route from working at UBER where one of his tasks was installing wiring in cars. He liked working hands on with cars and so decided to undertake an apprenticeship. Sorrell says MBQ is a great working environment: "There are excellent mentors in the team."
He described the seven day whirlwind trip to the UK as a real eye-opener. "We travelled around the country to trade schools, dealerships undertaking some training along the way. I like the dealership where everything, including the the panel shop was all under one roof, it felt very connected. They had the latest and most up to date equipment there.
"The trip was a great opportunity and a fantastic experience," said Sorrell.
Frederick James Madden, Chairman of WPC Group commented: “This scholarship is a remarkable opportunity for these apprentices to engage with international best practices in vocational education and training. We are excited to see them return with new perspectives that will not only benefit their own development but also inspire their employers and communities.”
The collaboration between WPC Group and LSH Auto Australia reflects their shared commitment to fostering young talent and building international connections that strengthen vocational education and training in Australia.
