Punch Powertrain Solar Team’s car Punch Two, battled it out against 40 other competitors in the Challenger Class, to come third in the World Solar Challenge race in Australia last month.

The young team of students who designed and built it, worked tirelessly during the 3,000km race to finish in such a strong position, improving their 2015 world race position by two places.

Cromax from Axalta Coating Systems supported the Punch Powertrain Solar Car, now in its second challenge, reflecting the convergence of the company’s product technology, commitment to motorsports, university relations program, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

As Silver Partner, Cromax worked with the student team throughout the production process to achieve the best final look and weight for the carbon fiber car body. The bespoke and eye-catching colours of white, blue and green that adorns the car, including the team’s new mascot - a boxing kangaroo - was prepped and painted with Cromax materials at the brand’s training headquarters in Mechelen, Belgium earlier this year.

Nancy Lane, Marketing Manager for Axalta Coating Systems in Australia, says, “As Silver Partner of the team, we have been following Punch Two’s progress closely and we are delighted that the team has placed so high in its class. The dedication to teamwork, love of innovation and outstanding ambition - values that we at Axalta also uphold – have been evident from the start. We would all like to congratulate the whole team.”
