Axalta Coating Systems is hosting the WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition for the Gold Coast and Brisbane regions on July 16, 2019.The competition gives young apprentices an opportunity to showcase their talents in a test of skill and knowledge in the vehicle painting category. The winner will go on to represent their region at the 2020 National Championship.

Axalta is a Principal Category Partner with WorldSkills Australia. Through this partnership, Axalta is able to support and encourage the trainees and apprentices who are the upcoming leaders of the industry – a mission that is an integral part of the innovative company’s future-minded vision.

Competitors will be equipped with Axalta’s signature Standox brand, using the Standoblue waterborne basecoat for all colour application, involving a two-tone design as specified by WorldSkills. One of the benefits of using Standoblue basecoat is that it could be hardened and dried quickly, ready to mask up for the second colour all within a very small timeframe. This is essential to ensure everyone finishes on the day.

Entrants must be undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship and be studying towards a qualification at an RTO/TAFE or University. There are no age criteria to enter the Regionals, however, to be eligible to proceed to the 2020 National Championships, a competitor should not be older than 24.
