AMA Group has bought David Chwyla's two Victorian shops Direct One and Mill Park & South Morang Smash. Direct One is a large shop which specialises in heavy hit repairs, predominantly for Suncorp. The 22-strong staff repair up around 110 cars per week. Mill Park is also a large facility and was founded by Chwyla's father 40 years ago. It will retain its name while Direct One will become Gemini Thomas Town.

Chwyla told Paint & Panel: "I've been at the forefront of the industry for many years and i have been considering this for some time as I can see how quickly the industry is changing. This is a good decision for my staff and for me. Being part of a group is great for the staff - it gives them opportunities and a career pathway that you don't get when you just work for an independent business.

"I’m looking forward to working for the new group."

Andy Hopkins, AMA CEO said: “I am very pleased with the deal and look forward to welcoming Dave and his team to the group. I’m also pleased and excited at the opportunity to expand the AMA/Gemini group in Melbourne and we will be investing in both locations which will allow us to refurbish and update the equipment and gain further efficiencies."
