Kingswood Smash Repairs was recognised for its environmental practices when the business was awarded Level 3 ‘Best Practice’ Green Stamp Accreditation, reports MTA NSW environment manager Sarah Walton.
Kingswood Smash Repairs has implemented many green initiatives over the years, helping them to go above and beyond compliance levels set for the industry. A few simple green tips currently applied Kingswood Smash Repairs:
Management and staff are aware of environmental responsibilities.
All vehicle washing is conducted in a bunded, undercover wash down bay that drains to an oil water separator.
Any wastewater from the workshop floor or a wash bay is collected and removed for disposal by a licensed contractor or disposed of through an oil water separator.
Skylights are used to reduce energy consumption.
Recycled thinner (gunwash) is used to clean spray guns.
An adequate number of emergency spill kits are available and easily accessible.
The business has and displays an environmental policy.
The accreditation is run through MTA’s Green Stamp Plus Program and recognises the environmental achievements of businesses in the motor industry. Accreditation is based on a merit system of set criteria relating to environmental management, liquid waste disposal, energy and water efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, spill management, air pollution management, noise pollution management and wastewater management. Businesses who achieve "Green Stamp Accreditation" are then able to promote this to their clients and potential customers.
Kristie Pate, Managing Director of Kingswood Smash Repairs said: “Displaying the green stamp is a great marketing tool for our business. It is greatly admired by our customers to see that we are trying to improve on our environmental footprint. I recommend this programme to other repairers – it's free and only takes about 30 minutes of your time. I just phoned to say that I was interested and I was given an appointment time. We just walked through the shop to view points of interest and Sarah was very happy with everything she saw. Sarah later got back to me with a certificate for a great result!”
