New rules for repairing written-off vehicles in NSW

New rules came into force on 1 August to ensure written off vehicles are repaired properly.
An RTA spokesperson said: “From 1 August all written-off vehicles eligible for repair need to have a certificate of compliance from their licensed repairer to be reregistered.

“The certificate of compliance states the vehicle has been repaired to required safety standards.

“The changes have been developed in consultation with the Motor Traders Association, the NSW Police and the NSW Department of Fair Trading.

“They represent a push to clamp down on organised crime selling severely damaged vehicles to unsuspecting buyers, which are often repaired using stolen parts and dangerous practices,” the spokesperson said.Classic cars owners are the most likely to apply for a certificate of compliance
