Collision repair industry shows unity

Representatives of the national collision repair industry from all states met in Brisbane recently to discuss ongoing issues with insurers and the implications for consumers as a result of major restructuring programs that major insurance companies are currently undertaking.

A key focus of the meeting was the industry’s Code of Conduct and the obligations of both repairers and insurers to strictly abide by the terms of the code to the benefit of consumers.

At this, the third meeting of the year, representatives from MTA SA, MTA WA, VACC, MTA Q and MTA NSW focused on how to further promote ‘real times’.

Key points discussed during the meetings held throughout 2010 have included:
• Real times

• Repairer education and training

• Shop grading by the industry

• Relationships with insurers

• Tools for repairers to establish their own rate independently

• Recovering business operational and administration costs

• Benchmarking for the industry by the industry

All delegates agreed to a campaign that will educate repairers about their rights to ensure the ongoing success of their businesses and will continue to develop appropriate strategies for the collision repair industry and their members.
