Callaghan Collision Centre has won Green Stamp accreditation, proving that being green works for business.
By Sarah Walton, Environmental Manager NSW MTA
Callaghan Collision Centre, a smash repair business in Sydney’s Taren Point (and dedicated MTA member), has restored many hundreds of vehicles with damage resulting from minor car park bumps to major accidents, returning cars to their original condition.
As it has grown, Callaghan Collision Centre has consciously tried to reduce the amount of environmental impact. Not only does Callaghan Collision Centre strive to comply with all relevant legislation, the business goes above and beyond to reduce its water consumption, energy usage and waste.
These efforts and the success of Callaghan Collision Centre saw the business awarded with Level 3 (Best Practice) Green Stamp Accreditation in August 2010.
This accreditation is run through MTA’s Green Stamp Plus Program and recognises the environmental achievements of businesses in the motor industry. Accreditation is based on a merit system of set criteria relating to environmental management, liquid waste disposal, energy and water efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, spill management, air pollution management, noise pollution management and wastewater management.
Those businesses which achieve accreditation are awarded with the “Green Stamp” and are then able to promote this to clients and potential customers.
Callaghan Collision Centre employee Megan Evans believes receiving the “Green Stamp” is extremely important to the running of the business.
“It gives us an opportunity to market our environmental achievements to the community and boost staff morale,” she said. “I strongly believe it will raise the profile of our industry with more repairers being rewarded for their environmental initiatives.”
All these activities demonstrate Callaghan Collision Centre cares about the environment, the community, the industry and its staff. It is proud of its successful business which is progressing forward and proves that being environmentally responsible makes good business sense.
Consumers are increasingly interested in the green credentials of the businesses they deal with. Achieving Green Stamp Environmental Accreditation demonstrates that businesses owners are committed to sustainable and clean practices and this assists in making your business more attractive to potential customers.
