The now outdated AUR05 training package for the automotive trades is being redeveloped and industry stakeholders have an opportunity to be involved with the outcomes.
Work on a new training package for the automotive industry is continuing following a scoping project undertaken by Manufacturing Skills Australia (MSA) for the redevelopment of the current training package, AUR05.
Following industry consultation, MSA has prepred a continuous imporvement program (CPI) and has engaged Resource Education and Training Pty Ltd to carry out work in 2010, based on this plan.
MSA says the work will be undertaken in stages according to the priorities identified in the CPI and the level of change required.
The specific issues to be addressed include:
- revision of all current AUR05 qualifications with regard to work role, pathways, AQF level, relevance and usefulness, packaging and flexibility, imported units and their pre-requisites, sector coverage revision of existing units of competency with regard to new technology, sector coverage, strengthening literacy and numeracy requirements, embedding employability skills, addressing licensing/regulatory and sustainability/environmental issues, updating evidence guides, etc;
- development of new units and qualifications to address identified issues and gaps;
- development of skill sets, if required; and
- updating of volume 1 information such as mandatory assessment guidelines, pathways advice, etc.
The estimated outcomes for the program are expected to be delivered in two phases during the next 12 months.
Phase 1 is to be completed by 31 July 2010, and includes:
- new qualification for loss assessors
- review and update unit inventories and selection rules in qualifications where there are barriers to delivery/achievement as identified in final scoping report
- employability skills summaries for all training package qualifications
- review and update of various Certificate II & III the bicycle, marine and outdoor power equipment sectors - to cover issues as identified in CIP related to qualifications, units, licensing, skill sets
- review Certificate I & Certificate II qualifications and units (VET in Schools and/or pre-apprenticeship qualifications)
Phase 2 is estimated to be completed by December 2010, and will include:
- review and update all specialisations in Certificate II in Automotive Mechanical, Certificate III in Mechanical Technology and Certificate IV - to cover issues as identified in CIP related to qualifications, units, licensing, skill sets
- review and update all specialisations in Certificates II and III in Automotive Vehicle Body - to cover issues as identified in CIP related to qualifications, units, licensing, skill sets, heavy vehicle trailer qualification
